Jennifer Wardrip - Bought for Husband, August 9, 2010
Bryan"I got this dvd for my husband, who read it in record time (for him, that means about a week). He's not as wordy as I am, but had this to say about the dvd: "If you like the show, you'll like the book. I just wish there were more of them, because the dvd is basically a set up of the storyline before the first episode of the TV show."Hope this helps!"
There must be some kind of way out of here.., April 22, 2011
MaxI can picture Ron Moore in a round table discussion with his writers after the end of their strike allowed for a full final season of BSG.
"There must be some kind of way out of here," he probably muttered to David Eick, referring to the trap they set for themselves by rushing to finish the series in a dignified fashion at the end of 4.0. I'm sure the fear that there would be no further episodes pushed the team to find a degree of closure in finding Earth in a hurry and by writing things like Mr. Gaeta's line, "known constellations are a match." Combine that with referring to actual names for the constellations (i.e. Sagittarius instead of Sagittarion) as their "ancient names" in the tomb of Athena in Season 2, killing off your heroine without a concrete plan to explain her return, and pigeonholing the writers into finding a planet to call Earth at the series end, and the result of trying to end the show a second time without the plan that guided Mr. Moore thus far may as well include Fonzie water-skiing.
Very Well Done, February 25, 2011
Wallis"I really enjoy the Science Fiction genre. Science Fiction seems to lend more to the imagination, allowing you to spark an idea and move forward with that idea. Here we find a very nice collection of music that has definitely cast a new light in the Science Fiction genre. I enjoy the new version of Battlestar Galactica immensely. One of the main reasons I enjoy the series so much is the music. I need to stay entertained on many different levels when I am watching a television show. The music for this series has absolutely provided a level of entertainment that has been missing from the genre for quite some time. The country music of Enterprise, was disappointing. What Battlestar Galactica has managed to achieve is very impressive. Tribal, Emotional, Spiritual, Uplifting, Motivational, Different are just a few words I choose to describe the music on this CD. Congratulations on putting out a collection of music on a CD worthy of being purchased Bear McCreary!"
better than the re-made BG series..., January 25, 2011
Spencer"This disc a great way to experience the original that inspired the re-make. Once you're hooked on this classic, you'll want to trade-up to the complete 6-disc series (complete with interviews, deleted scenes, etc.)"
meanders in the middle episodes but ends great, January 28, 2011
Ronnie"The beginning of the season is surprise to the audience, jumping months ahead in time from the last moment of the previous season ( which had the Cylons arriving at New Caprica to take control ). The first few episodes show the desperation of some characters planetside, while Big Adama tenaciously tries to get Galactica and Pegasus trained for an attack to return to New Caprica to rescue those left behind.
The rescue finally comes in Exodus, pt2, with lots of explosions and Adama's bold plan put into place.
The next five episodes are mostly characters tending to emotions, a few more of the moral/ethical crisis moments that often happen on the series, and some action toward the fleet heading to earth.
In the next four episodes ( The Passage, Eye of Jupiter, Rapture, Taking A Break.... ) the fleet finds a planet with a hidden temple that apparently was left by the thirteenth tribe; unfortunately the Cylons happen to also show up, soon followed by an even more potentially deadly problem.
After surviving that crisis, which features the retrieval of Baltar, the next four episodes basically fill as filler, again more of the moral/ethical crisis situations than storyline progress, except for a big problem that Starbuck has.
The last three episodes really roll ( Son Also Rises, then the two episode unit Crossroads ), with one situation resolved in part 2 of Crossroads but a new group of cliffhanger situations arise."
Can't Beat the Original, January 30, 2011
Spencer"This is a great DVD to purchase, showing how it all started against the "Tin Cans". If you have never seen the original Battlestar Galactica, and wondered how the war between the Cylons and Colonials first began, this DVD is the place to start."
